Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks will release their debut LP Enter the Slasher House on April 8th via Domino Records, and today we preview the track “Little Fang“. The project began with Tare composing many of these songs on his acoustic guitar, before inviting Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors to help flesh them out melodically. The two were then joined by drummer Jeremy Hyman of Ponytail and Dan Deacon, and together the trio eventually recorded the material live, with minimal overdubbing, in LA at Lair Studio.
“Little Fang” is some truly singular pop, and while eminently funky in it’s way, there’s still something AM-lite about it’s strange chiffon frosting. Together vocally, Tare and Deradoorian sound positively laughing-gas-giddy, and the trio’s off-handed and collaged style bears elements of their friend Ariel Pink’s often idiosyncratic pop sonics!
