New Tracks: Blue Moth “Warp Jangle Stomp” and “3 To The Power Of Moog”

Blue Moth is a new psychedelic duo that pairs the Chicago analogue synth player Will MacLean of Ice Cream Mission to Mars, whose self-titled debut release was one of our favorites of 2013, with his friend Stephen Kent of The End Springs. Kent is a UK musician who creates minimal, folk-inflected psych using guitar and analogue electronics, and when the two meet as Blue Moth the result is a powerful, witches brew of psychoactive sonics. The duo’s use of vintage gear lends the music reverberations of early Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream, but their use of an open and improvisational approach to their creative process means these two explore strange new realms far off that beaten path! On “Warp Jangle Stomp“, MacLean uncoils deep sub-acquotics, as his slowly repeating synth pattern circles the space while gaining menacing resonances; meanwhile, Kent decides to take up residence panned deeply in the right speaker, and from there, he practices meditative acoustic echoings amongst the track’s mounting, other-wordly din. “3 To The Power of Moog” begins with smoldering cosmic acoustics, and soon it’s air is filled by bizare oscillations, and the buzzing and chirping of an alien presence that belies the sweet, slow burn and face melt that is Kent’s simple but potent guitar phrase on this track. Blue Moth promises an upcoming “six track mini album”, and we will will keep you posted as soon as we know more!
