YVETTE is a Brooklyn-based duo that makes brutally industrialized post-punk, and while their 2013 LP Process, out now on Godmode, flew under our radar, we are more than thrilled it has made it into our earholes via this Soundcloud sampler today! The band finds Noah Kardos-Fein on guitar/vocals/electronics, as well as Dale Eisinger on drums/electronics, and together the pair makes confrontational, intensely physical sonics that are truly unsettling, but ultimately able to deliver the kind of emotional catharsis that is born from grinding thru dread and fear. Recorded by Godmode’s Nick Sylvester at Silent Barn in New York, he explains:
“The band and I recorded live in a converted auto garage, with cranky wiring and bad isolation and no chance whatsoever this would sound like a studio record. It was a cursed space, and what I witnessed those weekends was nothing short of a seance. (If you listen closely, you can hear the fallen hum.)”
Indeed, “Pure Pleasure” opens immediately with that fallen hum, which seems to seep out from behind a forbidden but alluring door, before Eisinger unleashes a drum pummeling that might remind one of Swans‘ monumental track “Sex, God, Sex”. Meanwhile, Kardos-Fein intones what could be considered the album’s terse and defining epithet, “Peel off the excess/Call it a process“, while unleashing shards of guitar scree and damaged electronics that eventually build into a blinding, white light seizure of noise. The two other tracks included in the sampler, “Radiation” and “Attrition“, are equally harrowing aural experiences, but you might say they are beasts of a more recognizable sort.
