New Track: Eno & Hyde “The Satellites”

Brian Eno has teamed up with Karl Hyde, one of the founding members of the UK duo Underworld, and as Eno & Hyde they will release their Someday World LP via Warp Records on May 6th. The album finds the musicians sharing vocal duties, as well as being joined by the sonically eclectic supporting cast of players listed below. Eno explains that the compositions for the 9 tracks on Someday World are “deliberately irregular and awkward”, formed from a collection of “beginnings” and “experiments” that found life when he shared them with Karl Hyde. In talking about the experience, Hyde says:

“It’s a bit like being nine years old again. You have no idea what you’ve just been given, the record button has been pressed and you’re on…When Brian played me these early tracks it was, ‘Oh my god, this is home! Can I borrow a guitar?”

The Satellites” is our first preview from the new work, and it moves in some interesting directions. Initially built around a repeating, circular guitar line and it’s delicate interplay with the track’s ambient synth work, it’s not long before a rousing set of horns and driving beat are added, before the track settles back into orbit for Eno and Hydes’ lunar-sounding vocal musings!
