Jamie xx will release his Girl/Sleep Sound AA-sided 12″ on May 5th via Young Turks, and it will be his first solo release since his 2011 debut single “Far Nearer“, the same year that saw his extraordinary album collaboration with Gil Scott-Heron on I’m New Here. It always seems as though Jamie xx is able to make the most of a little, and his use of negative space is next to none! “Sleep Sound” is no exception with it’s minimal and precise sonics carrying a hushed somnolent mood, even as slight slurs and squeaks in the sound add a surreal “disorder” to things; and to open, the track perfectly embodies that threshold between waking and sleep, before following an odd, child-like vocal sample into a continuously morphing world of groovy and kinetic, sub-bass dreams. Jamie xx will play a bunch of DJ sets in Europe and the US throughout 2014, and you can check out the announced dates below.
