Watch: Thee Oh Sees “The Lens”

Thee Oh Sees are readying their LP release Drop for Record Store Day on April 19th via Castle Face Records. Quite possibly the “prettiest” song yet from Jon Dwyer and the gang, Thee Oh Sees leave the garage behind on the psych-tinged love song “The Lens“, even introducing Sgt. Peppers-like orchestration and 60’s-style harmonies to great effect here! I think it’s fair to say that Thee Oh Sees began as a way for Dwyer to explore other musical directions beyond the noise and punk of his band’s like Pink and Brown or Coachwhips, and from it’s earliest days the project carried with it a more psych and “freak-folk” component. On “The Lens” those implicit musical elements become explicit and integrated, as Dwyer enters more fully into his Pet Sounds phase! The video for “The Lens” is directed by the artist and animator Alex Theodoropulos, and using “hand-drawn” elements, it seems to offer an allegory of cosmic and psychedelic dimensions…
