Legendary German producer Tobias Freund will release his 2×12″ LP A Series Of Shocks on March 31st via Berlin’s Ostgut Ton label. Described as a collection of Freund’s “non-standard” electronic music, which probably means that, much like his label Non Standard Productions, the tracks on A Series of Shocks are dedicated to “eclectic experimentations”. While many of the cuts on the 2×12″ are haunted and beat driven, “Entire” rolls out acres of cosmic drift via pulsating arpeggios and blissfully expanding deep-space tones; and while rhythmic in it’s way, only the slightest hint of a drum beat, but briefly registers on it’s sonic event field. Freund teams up with his wife Valentina Berthelon for the visuals here, and using footage that Freund shot back in 1992 on High 8, she creates mesmerizing patterns from static and light, which, before long, begin to take on a painterly quality that might remind one of Stan Brackhage‘s amazing, hand-painted films.
