Listen: Lyman-Alpha Forest / Afterburner split 12″

More outstanding electronic music from Atlanta’s CGI Records! The label’s new limited edition split 12″ brings together two new duos, Lyman-Alpha Forest and Afterburner, and their differing styles provide the perfect contrast in this 2-sided setting. Lyman-Alpha Forest is a Nashville-based collaboration between the producer Alex Michalski, aka Grey People (Proper Trax, Finale Sessions), as well as the artist Talk (Deconstructure). On their track “Car In A Void“, the pair take a scalpel to Acid lifting out the living organs they need with surgical precision, and the pair’s immaculate, clinical production means that when transplanted anew, the track’s expertly culled musical elements shine like perfect specimen. At about the halfway point, this cut drops down a strangely refracting k-hole of a break, before coming out the other side rejuvenated and ready for some real dance floor bionics!
On “Sheliak”, Afterburner rolls with a sweatier, more human approach to things. This duo hails from Chicago, and it brings together Nicholas Reed (Windbreaker) and Travis Thatcher (Voice Of Saturn). Using analogue and modular synths on this old school sounding rave cut, the pair oscillates between lush passages of ecstatic sonics, and those that are more jaw grinding and gritty, for an ultimately blissful ride into glow stick heaven. Drink plenty of water for this one!
