As James Conduit, the musician James Elliott explores gritty crepuscular realms of techno, and the artist’s limited edition, “cotton candy” colored cassette, Two Lines Thick, is out now via Geographic North. Elliot also releases solo work as Ateleia, and he has played bass/computer in the NYC bands School of Seven Bells and Bear In Heaven, but here he leaves psych-tinged indie pop for some sweaty, late night club workouts. “Ancient Spine” is a great place to begin, as it deflates Acid into a toxic morass of bubbling gas and slithering vipers. Built around the deep, muffled throb of an unrelenting kick, the track puts out some sinister and squelched tones that ping-pong between channels, before far-off sounding horn blasts add an underground train tunnel ambience to this sweltering, foot-work inducing cut. The video for the track brings in eye bending visuals, as gray-toned corpuscles of mirrored light throb and flash in synch with “Ancient Spine”‘s sonics, unleashing expanding Rorschach patterns to tickle the deep psyche via optical nerve vibrations! After the video embed, you can stream and download James Conduit’s Two Lines Thick in it’s entirety. More than worth the price of admission, to be sure!!
