When worlds collide…What happens when The Soft Pink Truth meets Black Metal? It’s been ten years since we last heard from Drew Daniels‘ (Matmos) solo project, but on June 17th The Soft Pink Truth will return with the Why Do the Heathen Rage? LP via Thrill Jockey. Billed as an “unrequited love letter to a divisive genre”, as well as “electronic profanations of black metal classics”, Daniel’s techno and house reworkings of tracks by artists like Venom, Darkthrone, Sarcofago, Sargeist, Hellhammer, etc., have been put thru a tacitly stated, pink and “queer” lens, and the result is a mutant Beast of a wholly new sonic order! Featuring vocal contributions from his Matmos partner M.C. Schmidt, Antony and the Johnsons’ Antony Hegarty, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, as well as members of Chicago’s Locrian, Daniels has also, with the help of guitarist Owen Gardner (Teeth Mountain, Horse Lords), transposed the riffs on these black metal tracks so that they might find a new home in the dance club! In other Matmos news, the duo is getting ready to head out later this month for live dates in Europe, so check ’em out…
