Listen: QUAYS “Physisicks” and “Sleepers”

The young NYC-city producer QUAYS is currently using a Big Apple telephone number to “release” his track “Sleepers“, and he also has a new cut up this month via Soundcloud, “Physisicks“. In addition, the musician is readying what appears to be his first mixtape, which will be released soon via DIS Magazine, though no date has yet been announced. “Physisicks” is bathed in a lo-fi crackle and hiss, and it offers a nod to early Burial with “Night Bus”-like synths setting a crepuscular mood, as skewed and slowed 2-step snaps around metal-sharp hand-claps. The lo-fi aesthetic of this track is duplicated in a most interesting way on “Sleepers”, where the music’s primary mode of distribution, the telephone, ensures it’s compromised fidelity. Thus, Dummy Magazine‘s recent publishing of “Sleepers” was recorded via a Skype link, meaning it’s buried in a bit of 8-bit haze, which plays well with the track’s vintage video game melody and halting beat shuffle. So, why don’t you give QUAYS a call, and tell him you like what you hearin’…917-410-6948!
