Atlanta-based producer and label owner Matt Weiner also releases music under the name TWINS, and on June 23rd he will put out the Love Is A Luxury 12″ via his CGI Records, and in conjunction with the label Geographic North. The new EP features two ten-minute tracks, “Love Runs Deep” and “The Empty Deep“, and while both cuts utilize a dub approach and brandish some seriously tricked out low-end, “Love Runs Deep” moves in a more House direction, while “The Empty Deep” has a more deconstructed and experimental feel. “Love Runs Deep” filters it’s slow motion House thru various, intersecting sub aquatic chambers, and it uses minimalist, meditative chords and off-kilter, shifting rhythmic patterns to create subtly sinister, yet sensual sonics. Echoes of this syrupy, dubbed-out House remain to haunt the fringes of “The Empty Deep”, but drums add texture more than rhythmic propulsion here, as Weinar’s creepy vocals and breathy echoes make this sound like a track Throbbing Gristle got too stoned to remember they cut!
