Mexican Slang‘s Annabelle Lee says that she struggled for several years to put together a band until, out of frustration and the need to express herself, she began recording on her own, releasing her first EP on-line in 2012. Soon after, the Toronto singer/guitarist would meet bassist Jimmy Tony Billy and drummer Den Holm, and before long the trio was playing live on bills with bands like Naomi Punk, Perfect Pussy, and Destruction Unit. On July 14th Mexican Slang will release their Inside the Velvet Castle EP via Buzz Records, and this weekend they posted a video for the track “Halcyon“. Ms. Lee directs and stars in this trip to Sin City, composited with eye popping visuals over old footage of neon crowned gambling rooms and strip clubs, and it goes quite well with “Halcyon”‘s boozy, pills and blues vibe. If you like taking a late night trip to that roadhouse on the wrong side of town, Mexican Slang will do just the trick! Oh yeah, the band has a handful of upcoming Canadian and US live dates, so check the list after the video embed…
