Listen: Blond:ish “Birds Eat Birds”

Blond:ish sure has a knack for making strange and otherworldly house music. For their new EP Wunderkammer, out now digitally on Beatport via Kompakt, DJs Anstascia D’ Elene and Vivie-Ann Bakos left their busy tour schedule, and the crowded city of London, to set-up a small recording studio in Tulum, Mexico. Working in the psychedelic vein of their recent Kompakt EPs, 2012’s Lovers In Limbo and 2013’s Inward Visions, the pair’s trip south of the border also found the producers filling their time with field recording adventures around the beach ruins of the early Mayans. While most sonic evidence of these recording endeavors seem to have been deeply sublimated into the music itself, the frighteningly named track “Birds Eat Birds” reveals that what remains is a real spatial and cinematic sense for sound! This cut couples those haunting atmospherics with spell-binding beat capabilities, while Anstascia and Vivie-Ann demonstrate an absolutely fearless ability to move their work from off-the-beaten path, into places mysteriously left-of-field!
