The Chicago producers Jeremiah Meece and J.A. Foxx‘s VALIS project will finally release their debut LP The Demolished Man via DKA Records on August 28th. Meece has released music under a variety of monikers including The-Drum, JODY, and Clique Talk; and his work with Foxx as VALIS has been distinguished by a handful of remixes for artists like Age of Consent, //TENSE//, Soft Metals, Crossover, etc., some rare live shows, and the alluring promise of a full-length. The label reports that the gentlemen ditched 2 EPs worth of material during a three year period while in production on The Demolished Man, but adds:
“This is a record that was made and conceived as an album, and to listen through it start to finish is to experience an incredible arc of emotions and ideas.”
On the track “Humidity“, the pair combine their flare for vintage synth-pop with a slinky and filtered R&B vibe, and they match this nostalgic bent with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor. A sweaty, down-tuned male voice tells us that he “always feels bad when it’s raining”, adding other suggestive offerings about the weather, before finally inquiring with a jaunty cock to his handlebar mustache, and some canned thunder for sonic accompaniment, “can you feel the moisture in the air”. Shticky to be sure, but really, it’s just the right salt component to balance the track’s falsetto vocals and elegant melancholy!
Cover art for The Demolished Man was provided by the multi-media artist and vocalist Nicole Ginelli, and it sets the perfect tone with it’s wide-slung and well-hung, leather daddy vibe.
