The Vaselines are back at it, and they will release their upcoming LP V For Vaselines on October 7th via Rosary Records. The Scottish song writing team of Eugene Kelly & Frances McKee, made famous by Kurt Cobain‘s well-noted devotion after Nirvana covered The Vaselines’ tracks “Son of a Gun“, “Molly’s Lips“, and “Jesus Don’t Want Me For a Sunbeam“, have again joined forces, recording their upcoming album in Glasgow at Mogwai’s Castle Of Doom studio with Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai). V For Vaselines also features contributions from a host of Scottish cohorts like Michael McGaughrin (1990s), Frank Macdonald (Teenage Fanclub), Stevie Jackson (Belle & Sebastian), Graeme Smillie (Olympic Swimmers), Paul Foley (Mandrake Shepherd), and Scott Patterson (Sons & Daughters). Eugene Kelly explains that the inspiration for the new record came when he happened upon a Ramones cover band in Glasgow, and he adds: “After that, I just wanted to write some really short punk rock songs, just get into people’s ear really straight away, and then get out of there really quickly.” “One Lost Year” does just that, with Kelly and Mckee once again displaying their seemingly effortless ability to lay down infectious, spontaneous sounding pop!
