Watch: Black Light Smoke “Firefly”

Jordan Lieb‘s Black Light Smoke project returns with the Firefly EP, out now on Scissor and Thread. The NYC-based composer, producer, and musician uses Black Light Smoke to explore a vintage-inspired intersection between synth-pop and post-punk, for a real arty, Downtown feel! “Firefly” rocks a robotic techno beat into richly arpeggiating bass, before a femme fatale explains with cool spoken vocals, “I’m like a firefly/ trapped in the spot light./ That’s how it feels/ just to be next to you.” Lieb’s vocals have their turn next, but their slurred come-ons are lost in black-out drunk babble. Director Michel Mazza‘s video for the track uses this male/female power dynamic as the source of it’s dramatic content, locating the video in a late night club, as Lieb follows his dark muse down a k-hole into party oblivion…
