Chapel Hill’s Spider Bags have a new LP, Frozen Letter, and it’s out now on Merge Records. The band formed in 2005, and since then guitarist/vocalist Dan McGee has been the group’s longstanding member, that is until adding Rock Forbes on drums and Steve Oliva on bass during the recording of the band’s 2012 LP Shake My Head (Odessa Records). The new album was mostly recorded live, over a couple days of sessions with engineer/producer Wesley Wolfe, and as “Chem Trails” reveals, this lends the tracks a really blistering immediacy! McGee begins the cut by asking his drummer, “Are you ready Rocco? It starts with a kiss, man, from me to you! Here it comes…”, before delivering a reverberating smooch, as the boys launch into the super-tight, sugar high of “Chem Trails”. The video was directed by Jonny Look, and it’s vintage slasher flick feel replaces gory conclusions for less horrible results…Spider Bags kick off a short US tour tonight in Nashville at The Stone Fox, and you can check out the rest of the dates after the video embed…
