Watch: Steve Gunn & Mike Cooper “Pony Blues”

1814

A really outstanding collaboration of audio and visuals come together in this beautifully shot, short film for Steve Gunn and Mike Cooper‘s track “Pony Blues“. The video is directed by Champ Ensminger, in partnership with Documentary Arts Asia, and it features some truly stunning aerial cinematography from Ulises Baquč. Shot in Pai, Thailand, the video takes it’s cues from an old ghost story told in the region’s northern countryside about a king’s stable boy who goes hungry and dies at the jungle’s edge, forever haunting the region, and luring lost travelers to a watery grave.
Many amazing crosswinds blow thru this project…The film’s soundtrack, “Pony Blues”, can be found on Steve Gunn & Mike Cooper‘s fantastic LP Cantos de Lisboa, which happens to be Vol. 11 of RVNG Intl.‘s FRKWYS, “an unrestricted series pairing contemporary artists with their influential predecessors.” Here, up-and-coming guitarist/vocalist Steve Gunn partners with his musical hero Mike Cooper in Lisbon, Portugal, and the pair’s recorded sessions are colored by the region’s rich cultural and musical history, as well as their own experience playing the outer fringes of folk and blues.
