This year’s 11th annual Decibel Festival features an expanded roster for their acclaimed Optical series, a showcase pairing cutting edge electronic musicians with like-minded visual artists. This means a rare opportunity to see Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never (Warp) , one of electronic music’s most intriguing young composers, collaborating live with sculptor/video artist Nate Boyce, for an evening dubbed “Playful Discord“. Though the two artists work in their separate mediums, they share an affinity for “the infinite possibility of form”, and their forward-thinking work in the realms of sound and vision are a natural compliment, as evidenced by their recent high profile collaborations at places like MoMA PS1’s VW Dome or the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburg. Also on the video tap for the evening, Atom™‘s semi-improvised audio-visual set “HD/AV“, as well as the Berlin-based conceptual composer David Letellier, aka Kangding Ray.
