UK musician and producer Kevin Martin, aka The Bug, will release his Exit EP on October 7th via Ninja Tune, and today we take a look at the artist’s eye melting new video for “Function/Void“. Directed by the folks at the British-based film and animation studio Factory Fifteen, in collaboration with the independent production company Nexus, as well as Vice/Intel‘s tech art supporters The Creator’s Project, “Function/Void” explores a future-forward, but totalitarian society, on the very literal brink of collapse. Amazing animated sequences depict skyscrapers that seem to be imploding and collapsing under their own weight, as the video’s protagonists suffer thru the throes of their narrow, post-industrial existence. While “Function” strikes a panicked tone with sirens, grimey dancehall, and Manga’s harried insistence that he’s “just tryin’ to function”, “Void” balances the short film’s soundtrack with more ambient space, a syncopated, dub step groove, and chilly vocals from Liz Harris of Grouper. The Bug will tour North America with Actress, Wolf Eyes, Manga, and Flowdan beginning this coming October. Don’t miss the dates below…
