Hailing from the often rough and tumble streets of Humboldt Park in Chicago, the shy and reclusive bedroom musician J Fernandez will release his Memorize Now EP via Atelier Ciseaux on October 14th. Today we check out “Cosmic Was” and “Close Your Eyes“, two tracks off the EP’s B-side. Fernandez’s home-recorded music finds him playing all the instruments here, and his melancholy pop bears a loose and laid back aplomb! “Cosmic Was” layers a plangent and infectious guitar lead with tropical horns, as Fernandez’s falsetto harmonizes over his mellow, lower register, while “Close Your Eyes” features jazzy keys, shifting sand rhythms, and more of the singer’s quirky harmonies! Looks like Mr. Fernandez is ready to take the show on the road this October, including a stop in New York for this year’s CMJ, so check out the dates…
