Watch: Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks “Catchy (Was Contagious)”

Just in time for Halloween Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks presents a vintage horror film inspired short for “Catchy (Was Contagious)“. Directed by long-time Animal Collective visual collaborator Abigail Portner, with Giovanni Ribisi as Director of Photography, the video features cameos from David Portner, Angel Deradoorian, filmmaker/photographer Sean Pecknold, as well as Portner herself as the Creature From The Black Lagoon. In talking about the video, she had this to say:

“I wanted to make a video that referenced old horror movies from the 1950s Universal horror era. I am obsessed with movies like The Third Man, Truffauts 400 Blows and Ingmar Bergmans films. I wanted it to have the style of classic old LA so we used the LA river and the neighborhoods surrounding it as locations. The movie Them from the 1940s was shot on the LA river and I wanted it to have that feel also. Parts of Grease and Chinatown were filmed there too.”

If you live in LA you can catch a live screening of “Catchy (Was Contagious)” tonight, right before Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks set at the Ace Hotel’s Haunted Hotel Bash. The party will also feature a screening of John Carpenter‘s horror classic Halloween, as well as DJ sets from Zach Cowie (Wooden Wisdom), Amason (Miike Snow), Clifton Weaver (Funky Sole), and Neil Schield (Origami Vinyl). Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks’ Enter The Slasher House is out now on Domino.
