Today we take a little trip with Panda Bear‘s “Mr Noah“. The artist will release his Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper LP January 13th on Domino, and in anticipation, he has just dropped his Mr Noah EP this week via the label! Produced by Peter “Sonic Boom” Kember, of Spacemen 3 fame, the new release includes the EPs namesake, as well as 3 non-album b-sides…“Faces in the Crowd“, “Untying the Knot“, and “This Side of Paradise“.
“Mr Noah” opens with vacuum cleaner roars of guitar, before everything bubbles together into a lysergic tangle, filtering in-and-out of focus with brain altering waves of sound. Noah Lennox‘s stuttering vocal delivery, drawing out his vowels in a sort of mock echo, as well as scraps of jumbled lyrics like “tripped a lot/dropped a lot” should make all psychoactive references pretty explicit here; but it’s Lennox’s long standing ability to capture a sonic equivalent of those experiences that is most amazing! The video for “Mr Noah” is directed by AB/CD/CD, and like the track, it’s guaranteed to be flashback inducing. Centered around an apartment complex court yard, and an apparent argument between two lovers, the videos constantly rotating perspective, looped edits, and amazing camera flights are sure to disorient in the best of ways!
