More good news from Sleater-Kinney and Sub Pop! Not only will the band release Start Together tomorrow, a limited-edition vinyl box set comprised of remastered versions of their previous seven albums, plus a one-sided 7″ of the band’s new song “Bury Our Friends“, now we know they also have an upcoming album due out next year, as well as an early 2015 tour of the US, with select European dates planned! No Cities to Love finds the band working with producer John Goodmanson again, and it was recorded earlier this year at Tiny Telephone Recordings in San Francisco, Kung Fu Bakery Recording Studios in Portland, as well as Electrokitty in Seattle. In speaking about Sleater-Kinney’s new effort, guitarist/vocalist Carrie Browstein explained to Sub Pop, “We sound possessed on these songs, willing it all – the entire weight of the band and what it means to us – back into existence”; and this re-dedicated sense of purpose is directly evident on the track “Bury Our Friends”, where lines like: “Exhume your idols/Bury our friends/We’re wild and weary but won’t give in” ring with a hard won wisdom, while bravely reasserting the band’s central call-to-arms! The video for the track features the amazing director/writer/artist Miranda July, and here, strangely masked, standing in front of a white wall in this basic set-up, she uses her mesmerizing presence to physically intone the track’s rousing message. No Cities to Love is due out January 19/20, via Sub Pop. You can find a list of Sleater-Kinney’s upcoming 2015 tour dates after the video embed…
