Those deep house aficionados Frank & Tony have a new 3-song EP out now called Go, the second in a series of three 12″ releases that have come out in advance of their upcoming LP You Go Girl. Francis “Frank” Harris and French DJ Anthony “Tony” Collins, also the masterminds behind the collaborative label Scissor & Thread, create elegantly warped house full of wistfully foggy melody and kinetic, late-night rhythms. An effortless restraint guides the three tracks here, as the duo crafts emotive and sensual music from impressively minimal means. “Call Me Rain” drops a slightly stuttering 4//4 of bass and drum, with it’s languid after-hours vibe augmented by crepuscular chords and mellow, filtering synths, before redoubling it’s efforts thru a muscular, pounding kick and rapid-fire snare clatter. “Nine Cities” takes a more syncopated approach to it’s rhythms, building the track around rich, guttural bass, stinging hand claps, and alternating high hat, while swells of blue smoke fill the air with a resonant throb. The EP’s closer, “Novella“, begins with noir-ish ambiance before agile, hushed bass and tight snare initiate athletic footwork patterns deep in the club’s basement. As the track’s muffled melodic drift filters thru the low end, it seems to suggest the night’s more street-level concerns, though sublimated thru concrete, steel, and a partier’s frame of mind, like distant memories!
