The new installment in Software‘s Mixware series features the electronic/visual duo Sculpture. The series invites various label artists to explore “new, old, and unreleased material alongside remixes, edits, and archival material”, making the results downloadable via Bandcamp, but also available physically on limited edition cassette. For “Video Plot“, Sculpture’s Reuben Sutherland and Dan Hayhurst have built complex audio and visualscapes from live recordings done during the touring of their outstanding 2014 release Membrane Pop. Deftly compiling myriad sonic detritus and a warped palette of filtering and skewed beats, “Video Plot”‘s live recorded approach lends the music a real bristling and rough hewn feel. Sutherland’s animated visuals are an additionally amazing contribution to this release, and with a running time over forty minutes, extremely generous. Whimsical and kaleidoscopic, the artist’s seemingly endless array of madly patterned images provide the perfect visual analogue for Sculpture’s intricately evolving sonics.
