Today we check out Hookworms‘ new video for “Radio Tokyo“, directed by Sam Wiehl. In an attempt to capture the audio and visual overload of this Leeds-based five-piece, Wiehl filmed the band live, surrounded by transparent screens onto which various images were projected. The result is quite abstracted, obscuring the band behind flickering patches of black that only allow for momentary glimpses of the players, while holding any notions of a “normal” viewing completely at bay. Frustrating to some degree, but ultimately hypnotic in an unsettling way, Wiehl’s visuals pair well with the energized bombast that is “Radio Tokyo”. You can find this track on Hookworm’s 2014 LP The Hum, out now on Weird World. The band has a handful of UK live dates planned for this winter, before heading to the US this spring…
