Listen: Anthony Naples “Abrazo”

1241

Anthony Naples will release his long awaited debut LP Body Pill on February 17th via Four Tet‘s Text Records. Back in December of 2014 we got our first taste of the upcoming album with a preview of “Refugio”, and today we take a listen to Body Pill‘s second cut, “Abrazo“. Meaning “hug” or “embrace” in Spanish, the track opens with elegant string washes and a deconstructed, stuttering house beat. These two elements play off each other in a syncopated fashion, with a roomy sense of reverb lending the cut a faded opulence. Meanwhile, the faint throb of a 4/4 heart beat can be heard beginning to emerge from deep within the mix, before it is joined by a more insistent, pounding kick drum. By midpoint, funky organ notes filter thru, and their interplay with strings and rhythm give the cut woozy, exhilarating kinetics.
