Watch: Holy Sons “Long Days”

1227

Holy Sons‘ 2014 LP, The Fact Facer, out now on Thrill Jockey, is a brilliant, slow creeper of an album. Full of sonic left turns, and narrated throughout by Emil Amos‘ vivid lyrics, the multi-instrumentalist has crafted a truly adventurous record that, while difficult to pin down and unafraid of it’s dark content, remains deeply personal and eminently accessible. While “Long Days” has a loose funky approach, with organ and wah-wah giving the cut an early 70’s vibe, the track also rides high on a hip-hop inflected drum and bass line. There’s something almost Beck-like here, but Amos allows his superior musicianship to lead the way, while never sanitizing his creativity with the easy listening concerns of commercial pop.
No directorial credits are given for this video offering, which collages animation, B-roll oddities, as well as behind-the-scenes studio footage. Holy Sons kick off their European tour this week, so here are those dates…
