Viet Cong‘s excellent, self-titled LP is out this month on Jagjaguwar/Flemish Eye. In addition, the Calgary post-punk quartet recently released this new video for their track “Silhouettes“. Directed by Brook Linder, whose awesome video for A Place To Bury Strangers‘ “Straight” was included in our 2014 round-up of the year’s best music videos, returns here to deliver another bit of creepy sci-fi. The video’s protagonist, clad in protective space suit and carrying some sort of Geiger counter-like device, seems to be exploring a dark house in search of a radioactive box. The perspective shifts between watching the figure walk thru dark rooms and various POV that allow us to see the “heat-sensitive” screen views seen from behind the mask. As one might imagine, when the box is finally opened, the results are transfiguring. Meanwhile, sonically, “Silhouettes” is a gripping bit of post-punk, and while it bears a kind of nosier resemblance to some of Interpol’s outstanding, early work, Viet Cong definitely don’t seem like the kind guys looking to get trapped in a signature sound. The band kicks off an extensive tour of the US and Europe this winter and spring, so here are those dates…
