Here’s an excellent live set from drone god Stephen O’Malley, performing solo at Blæst in Trondheim, Norway this past January. In the photos from Thor Egil Leirtrø, O’Malley can be seen playing beside three HIWATT CUSTOM 100 Fullstacks and two AMPEG SVT-VR Stacks, haunting the stage’s shadowed sides as a flickering film appears to be projected on the amps. While the first twenty minutes pass by in a zen-like stupor of reverberating ambiance and single strummed chords, by midway the pace heats into a boiling roil of textured overtones, as the guitarist works at his instrument with restrained fury, before cooling back down into third eye sonics.
Stephen O’Malley has a couple solo European dates coming up, and he will also perform as KTL with Peter Rehberg for Gisèle Vienne‘s THIS IS HOW YOU WILL DISAPPEAR, etc. Here they are…
