This past January we checked out Marching Church‘s searing single “Hungry For Love“, off the band’s upcoming This World Is Not Enough LP, due out March 31st via Sacred Bones (North America, Australia), Posh Isolation (Europe), and Big Love (Japan). The new video for the track was directed by Elias Rønnenfeldt himself, in conjunction with Marching Church bassist and Lower lead man Kristian Emdal, as well as Lukas Bay Højlund. The track is dominated by Rønnenfeldt’s improvised vocal delivery, a primal yet sublime accounting of his voracious appetite for love, and the video follows suit with erotically-tinged, but abstracted visuals. We watch in a mirror as a lover applies make-up, the camera hovering impossibly close to the grainy reflection. This image is returned to again and again, in a sort of “sacrilegious” (as in “to demystify”) act of watching. The camera’s desire to know it’s subject completely, obsessively, is enacted in the voyeuristic exchange, but the flickering imagery and androgynous physicality of “…Love”‘s subject, thwarts any kind of complete “knowing” at every turn!
