Lower Dens‘ Jana Hunter turns in a stunning vocal performance on the band’s new track “Ondine“, off their upcoming LP Escape from Evil, due out March 31st via Ribbon Music. Always a curious thing to behold with it’s uncanny register, here, Hunter seems in complete control, able to push her voice, instrument-like, into previously uncharted territory–as far as the band’s recorded output is concerned. And with this increasingly developed vocal facility, so comes a more clear-eyed lyrical approach that, while potentially less heady, is capable of direct emotive appeal. Hunter sings: “I think you’ll understand/The way I feel can’t be helped”, and while this song seems steeped in loss and regret, the experience of letting go, she later belts out the line “hold on” with an almost impossible, earth shaking passion.
