Fort Romeau will return with his new LP Insides due out March 31st via Ghostly International. This will be the follow-up to Mike Greene‘s 2012 LP Kingdoms out on 100% Silk. The intervening years have seen the UK-based house producer release several 12″‘s and an EP for Ghostly, while busily honing his DJ skills at clubs in Europe. You can hear this in the quiet confidence with which he builds this tracks allowing the various melodic elements and rhythms to develop organically over time–just as a DJ would to build the energy of a crowd.
“All I Want” is the third single from the record, and it launches into a laid back and low slung groove with mellow kicks and a glitchy hi-hat scratching out the rhythm before muffled hand claps and an elastic bass-line join to make for some funky kinetics. This is a late night cut, with the room filling up, and its insistent house vibe is the infectious kind–a sort of hypnotic draw to the dance floor.
Greene goes on to fill out the track’s monochromatic tones with a male vocal sample that hangs just on the other side of intelligible, while foggy chimes eerily refract through the audio space. Later, more color is added when an uplifting piano line further sets the deep house mood. Sure to elevate the crowd, it does so gradually with a long build before tailing off into another crepuscular, bass driven groove. To finish, it arrives full-circle when the vocals and piano rejoin in blissful refrain.
