Seattle-based techno producer Josef Gaard will release his Obsidian Falls EP on March 31st via the Portland label Blankstairs. Gaard takes a minimal approach to his medium, focusing on it’s deeper, psychosomatic effects–which lends his music ambient and subterranean qualities. Today we check out the track “Elysea“, which Josef recently shared thru XLR8R–with a FREE download of the cut even available via the site. Replacing techno’s potentially driving kick with a slowly rising, heart beat throb, marine layers of industrial air gather a spectral force, here, as sublime changes in the barometric pressure wash over these machines running thru the night.
Josef Gaard is also a member of the Seattle techno collective secondnature. The group is responsible for bringing electronic music to the city via hosted and off-the-grid events, like their upcoming “Evening of Deep Electronics” on March 28th, featuring Sweden’s Varg and Portland’s Best Available Technology. Look for Gaard to DJ a set that night, as well as secondnature’s DŘD. Here’s more info on the event.
