The Houston-based electronic producer Rabit has a brand new EP, Baptizm, out now on Tri Angle Records. You can also catch him at SXSW this year playing the On the Fly Showcase at Plush (617 Red River St)–along with Blind Prophet, CELESTIAL TRAX, Mike G, and more…
Rabit’s work is often associated with genre pushing UK producers like Mumdance and Logos, having appeared on the latter’s acclaimed 2013 debut LP, Cold Mission (Keysound Recordings). He also scored a grime hit teaming up with Riko Dan on the 2014 cut “Black Dragons” (Glacial Sound). “Straps”, as well as the previously released “Bloody Eye“, continue in that vein. Opening with a shotgun blast, followed by rapid fire snare shot, “Straps” comes packed with enough ammo for a small war. Moving deftly between these dense, percussive exchanges, and shorter, cordite-tinged ambiance, Rabit delivers some truly nasty and ambient grime here.
