Watch: Death Grips “On GP”

Death Grips finally announced the release date for Jenny Death, the second half of their 2xLP The Powers That B. With the first half, Niggas On The Moon already out, look for the long promised follow-up to arrive March 17th via Harvest Records. Late last week, the band posted two videos for the album’s closing track, “On GP“, the lyrics of which read like some sort of fuck-you-good-bye, suicide note–appropriate, I guess, for a band that has already broken up, supposedly…even while releasing three records in the interim following that announcement back in July of 2014.
Sonically, “On GP” finds the band returning to their more punk and metal roots, and while it still features Stefan Burnett‘s twisted rants, the downcast intensity of this track’s more rock-driven arrangement doesn’t act as just one more foil or affront, as some of the electronically driven elements of Government Plates can. Sure, Death Grips still sound pissed off, but it’s like they opened up the back door of the car, and let you in for a ride this time…if you dare.
The official video for “On GP” was preceded by a YouTube clip of the trio listening to the song inside the echo chamber of Studio 1 at Sunset Sound Recorders, which you can watch here. However, they followed that up this past Friday with the video you see embedded above. Directed by Death Grips themselves, the video starts with a colossal vape toke, before it follows it’s protagonist as he performs various acts of prestidigitation while seated at a table or walking along the freeway.
