Lee Bannon will release his Pattern of Excel LP via Ninja Tune on July 10th, and today we check out the album’s first single, “Artificial Stasis“. While the currently NY-based producer is known for his work with Joey Bada$$ and the Pro Era crew, his 2013 offering for Ninja Tune, Alternate/Endings, explored his love for 90’s era drum & bass, and jungle. Never one to sit still for long, though, this new cut demonstrates that Pattern of Excel will leave Bannon’s more beat driven work behind to continue his development into left field ambiance. Eery drift dominates as the track opens, while odd-ball vocal elements filter thru the bruised air. By midpoint a single piano note has melodic aspirations, but chooses to utter little. Mostly devoid of percussion, random clicks and occasional ghostly bangs echo from deep inside “Artificial Stasis”, before the whole track gives way to a strange snippet of found sound.
