Kip Uhlhorn, founding member of the psych-gaze band Cloudland Canyon, teams up with vocalist Gabby Weiss to form the project U/V Light, and the pair will release their Cenotaph LP via Seattle’s Medical Records on June 11th. Pre-orders for the record begin this week, so let’s check out the album’s lead single “Arriviste“. Drawing inspiration from early German synth pioneers like Conrad Schnitzler, Harald Grosskopf, and Klaus Schulze, and armed with an arsenal of vintage gear, U/V Light infuse their influences with a more dance-pop leaning. “Arriviste” shines with a phasing lunar quality that pans between the speakers, seeming to give it a reflective volumetrics, before Gabby Weiss’ mantric vocals add soaring human textures to the arpeggiating layers of machines. While there’s something “light-like” to their sound, as the duo’s name would suggest, this is an inwardly shinning, astral kind of light…perfect for late-night dream travel!
Stay tuned, as Live Eye Tv will have an interview with Kip Uhlhorn, regarding the project and upcoming album, in the next week. We’ll keep you posted!
