Watch: A Taut Line “Midnight Shoreline”

Diskotopia label co-founder Matt Lyne will return with his A Taut Line project on April 27th. The Japanese-based producer will release his second solo LP for the label, Mutual Prints, and today we checkout Lyne’s new video for his album cut, “Midnight Shoreline“. Diskotopia calls it’s style “4th world exotica”, and that shows up throughout this new track, which features a melange of far-flung rhythmic styles and tense, film noir mood. Traveling from Borneo to the late night clubs of Tokyo in the span of a few measures is no easy task, but traveling is what this producer does best. What’s most curious, though, is the way Lyne pushes many of his sonic elements to the point of breaking–such that things like cymbals and snares crackle and spray like crashing waves of crispy white noise! The visuals for “Midnight Shoreline” echo this nicely, and feature plenty of said “shoreline” composited through a black grid and snowy haze of old stag films–while a randomly placed Lightning effect snakes thru two points, waiting for something more lightning-like to do…
