Listen: Lee Bannon “Disneµ Girls”

1977

Lee Bannon‘s new track “Disneµ Girls” came with news that the producer would be changing his name to ¬b (alt L b), or “not Bannon”. Delivered via a “handwritten” note which you can read below, the artist explains that upcoming work, such as his sophomore effort for Ninja Tune, Pattern of Excel, due out July 10th via the label, reflects an evolution in his development that is no longer “in the same realm” as the work he made as a “fickle and still developing” young musician. Back in April we got a taste of this new direction with the track “Artificial Stasis“, and while it bore some resemblance to his dub-step leaning LP Cope, out this year on Babygrande, as promised, “Disneµ Girls” doesn’t sound much like any of Bannon’s previous work at all. In fact, this isn’t even “electronic” music anymore, for whatever that’s worth. Instead, we are offered shimmering slide guitar on this tropical, late-night beach meditation. It sure is great to see a young artist unafraid to stretch his legs and mature into the next phase of creative development!
