Matrixxman will release his sci-fi themed LP Homesick on July 10th via Ghostly International. Earlier this month we checked out the album’s first single “Hit Me Up” featuring Vin Sol, so today let’s check in with the record’s next noir offering…”Annika’s Theme.” Named after Homesick‘s “main character,” Matrixxman tells us that she is an artificial intelligence “not fully realized,” before adding that Annika is:
“…sentient and pulchritudinous in form, yet still in her social infancy stages. Despite nominal emotional hurdles, she is remarkably intelligent, as one might expect…exhibiting a growing propensity towards learning the elusive intricacies of human intimacy, which marks significant progress for someone of her particular make and model.”
Moody ambiance prevails as Matrixxman strips techno of it’s 4/4 drum beat while combining vocal choir synth pads with a simple, slow phasing bass-line. Like the track’s namesake, “Annika’s Theme” pulses with a certain sentience, yet her existential longing to truly know and feel can be heard here in the cinematic melancholy of downward stepping synth pads.
Matrixxman will play the Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, MI tonight, before heading off for several upcoming European live shows in July and August. Here are those dates…
