The Orb will release their new LP Moonbuilding 2703 AD via Kompakt on June 22nd, and the upcoming album is currently streaming on Soundcloud in advance of it’s release. Across 4 long-form tracks, Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann expertly layer labyrinths of obscure samples and beats, all the while moving deftly between ambient and rhythmically driven spaces with a storytellers ease. Paterson explains that a narrative underlies the music, a sonic tale about a future humankind that discovers their root element in lunar rocks–only to realize that this element vibrates harmonically “to the same tempo as the Orb”. Oh man, I always thought so!
