U.S. Girls will release Half Free on September 25th via 4AD, and today we check out Meg Remy‘s new video for her track “Woman’s Work“. Filmed, directed, and edited by Remy herself, the video examines our “collective paralysis in the face of aging”. Starring the mother daughter team of Jennifer Hazel and LuLu Hazel Turnbull, Remy uses the image of a projected eye, often placed like a “third eye”, but, instead of symbolizing an inner vision, these eyes seem to carry a burden for those that bear it–that weight of constantly being watched and judged.
“Woman’s Work” finds Remy collaborating again with the producer Onakabazien, and features additional vocals from Amanda Crist. This is the kind of singular sonic creation that sounds like little else. Informed by pop sensibilities, but warped in such way as to almost sound like two different tracks superimposed over each other, this cut’s preoccupation with “beauty and neurosis” is animated by stirring vocal deliveries from both Remy and Crist.
