Glasgow-based producer Koreless put out his TT/Love 12″ this month via Young Turks. During the interim between the release of his 2013 EP Yugen and now, Lewis Roberts has been busy collaborating with Emmanuel Biard on the audiovisual project “The Well“, and also playing the music of Terry Riley live with James Holden and Luke Abbott for a performance at London’s Barbican Hall. “TT” finds Roberts experimenting with Chicago inspired footwork rhythm and method, and the results are quite intriguing. Mostly devoid of percussion, the track still uses an abbreviated vocal sample, synth chords, and deep bass to intensely rhythmic ends, pitchshifting the elements into the kind of hyper-kinetic workout that would make RP Boo smile. “Love” follows a similar method while cranking up the bass to bone rattling levels. A shadow of footwork’s style remains, but only a shadow, as the rhythmic patterns are dragged out into a shuttering stutter step, while UK bass and hints of 2-step round out the cut’s aphotic mood.
