The LA-based psych-prog outfit Wand will release their new LP 1000 Days on September 25th via Drag City. Today we listen to the band’s track “Stolen Footsteps“, off the upcoming effort. Synth and drum machine driven at first, there’s a Genesis P-Orridge meets The Legendary Pink Dots feel here that gives this cut an initially sinister effect. Frontman Cory Thomas Hanson muses about “stolen footsteps/under the sauna/screaming louder”, before reporting, “couldn’t get any higher”. By about mid-point, though, when the track arrives at the chorus, Hanson’s technicolor vocals outshine whatever soggy crumpets vibe might be left around, as the keyboard soars off on candy coated arabesques of pop pleasure to close the cut.
Look for Wand to embark on an extensive US and European tour beginning later this week. Here are those dates…
