Chicago musician Ben Baker Billington has his hand in a number of excellent psych and avant jazz projects, including Moonrises and Tiger Hatchery, but Quicksails has often been the artist’s main creative vehicle. On August 24th Captcha Records will release Quicksails’ newest LP effort, Fleurs De La Lune. The upcoming album finds Billington teaming up with TH bandmates Andrew Scott Young and Mike Forbes. In addition, Circuit Des Yeux member Haley Fohr makes an appearance, as well as Rob Frye–a musician who plays with prolific psych standout Cooper Crain’s Bitchin’ Bajas and CAVE. Combining experimental electronics and eclectic acoustic instrumentation with a free jazz approach, Fleurs De La Lune‘s cosmic drift is definitely piloted by sonic cosmonauts well versed in bringing the outer fringes of music into focus for terrestrial listeners!
Today, we checkout visuals for the track “Find Flux” off the upcoming LP. Directed by Kyle Drouin, the video is constructed from an optically fried smattering of visual ephemera that includes close-ups of a tweaky eye, strobbing patterns of digital light, and a sped up night drive thru the city, these hypnotic images pair quite well with this cut’s slowly unspooled night wanderings.
Quicksails’ Fleurs De La Lune was mastered by James Plotkin and pressed to 150gm red haze in coke bottle blue vinyl. The outstanding artwork is by Emme Williams, with layout and design from David Russell Stempowski. Only 250 copies of the record are being pressed, and they will go fast, so grab one while you can!
