Today we give a listen to !!!’s (Chk Chk Chk) new As If We’ve Got Influences playlist. The band kicked off this past weekend with a collection of songs that inspired them in the making of their upcoming As If LP due out October 16th via Warp Records. Featuring a fairly eclectic, though mostly dance-oriented mix, you’ll find cuts from artists like Erykah Badu, Blawan, Diana Ross, Roxy Music, The Cure, Trus’me, and even Cat Stevens. In addition, !!!’s first two singles off the album, “Sick Ass Moon” and “Freedom! ’15” make appearances on the playlist. Check out what the group had to say about those tracks below, as well as a list of !!!’s upcoming tour dates…
SICK ASS MOON
Dance music has been using cut up RnB vocals for awhile now and it seemed like a good way to change the way our vocals sound and feel. Inspired by an actual sick ass moon. We wanted a classic type of song, something Neil Young could strum on his guitar, but were inspired structurally by the way club songs build and release tension all by simply dropping a kick in and out.
Trus’me – “I Want You (Alan Fitzpatrick Remix)”
Blawan – “Getting Me Down”
and of course a chopped and screwed Erykah Badu – “On & On”
FREEDOM! ’15
A disco odyssey of sorts, in the way that only disco songs can odyssize. Starting as a ballad and ending as a full on disco jam session. It references the days when disco session groups could stretch out and lay in the pocket for the whole sides of disco 12″ singles. We really stretched out on this one in fact and cut it down to as much as we could possibly bare. A shining example of what we can do live.
Loleatta Holloway – “Love Sensation (Extended Mix)”
Diana Ross – “Love Hangover”
