Camella Lobo‘s Tropic of Cancer project is readying a couple of releases for this fall, Archive: The Downwards Singles, as well as a new, three song EP, Stop Suffering–both due out in October via Blackest Ever Black. Today, we take a listen to the track “Dull Age“, off The Downwards Singles. Collecting together three of Lobo’s original cuts for the label, recorded in collaboration with Juan Mendez (Silent Servant), these songs are not only out-of-print, but the original copies of the first two records had been either stolen and/or scratched beyond repair. “The Dull Age”, TOC’s first salvo, really, originally appeared on a 2009 10″ with the track “Victims“, and was released via the UK label Downwards. Exuding a sparse and cold elegance, Lobo’s dreamily intoned vocal repetitions combine here with mournful synth lines and a minimalist take on techno’s drum patterning. The result is spell-binding, exuding a narcotic effect thru it’s trance-like qualities and stellar production.
